Course objectives:

The Course is dedicated for doctoral study at FF. The aim is to test students´ ability in creative and research activity within selected field of study, which is consistent with their future professional or research orientation. Emphasis is placed on critical selection of methods, building relevant theoretical background, thorough analysis of theoretical and empirical materials and students´ particular contribution to the area of research.

Requirements on student
|
A student must follow the schedule and guidelines. A student may take the Thesis Defense and the State Final PhD exam after he/she has met all requirements given in the curriculum design of the History study filed set up by the Department of Historical Sciences and all rules contained in the Study and Examination Statute of the University of West Bohemia. The course is successfully completed when the thesis is recommended for defense.

Content
|
Elaboration of PhD thesis is a necessary condition for final examination of PhD History programme to be held. The thesis topics are determined by Department´s Postgraduate Studies Committee at the beginning of study. Supervisor will give students detailed instructions on how to approach the topic theoretically and methodologically and on the schedule of their work. First part of the preparation is devoted to reading of relevant existing literature and selection of appropriate methods. Students regularly consult their Supervisor, and eventually also other students during a seminar held for this purpose. Second phase of the project consists in particular research activities, consultations with the supervisor, elaboration, editing and following completion of the project.
