Course objectives:
|
The subject provides students with outcomes and principles of support for people with intellectual disabilities. They will gain knowledge of the terminology, and become familiar with possible causes of developmental delays. The outcome of the subject is to develop students'critical and independent thinking, and to be aware of reflecting transformations of persons' with intellectual disabilities positioning in tsociety, its causes and implications for theory and practice of special education and other related disciplins including social work.

Content:
1. Historical retrospective of the status of a person with intellectuall disabilities in society,
2. Concept of intellectuall disability (terminology, diagnostics, etiology, classification),
3. Family with a child with intellectual disability,
4. Psychological models of parental response and their typical stages,
5. Communication specifics of intellectuall disability,
6. Psychosocial specifics of personality of people with intellectual disability,
7. Factors influencing inclusion of a person with an intellectual disability into a mainstream society,
8. Background and principles of support for a person with intellectual disability, evaluation of support effectiveness,
9. Education of pupils and students with intellectual disability,
10. Final Reflection.
