Course objectives:
|
This course is intended for postgraduates/Masters students.The aim of the course is to make sense of the basic characteristics and propositions development anthropology as a specific subdiscipline of sociocultural anthropology. Development anthropology is seen as a part of social a cultural anthropology deals with aplication of anthropological concepts, instruments and methods in context of the solve development problems in the world (social, economical and tecnological problems in different countries).

|
Historical context of the genesis of development discourse - colonialism, evolucionism, capitalism, progress. Anthropology of development vs./and development anthropology. Interpretation of the genesis of the development discourse from the post-modern perspective. Classical beliefs on progress and development (Malthus, Smith, Ricardo, Marx, Engels, Weber). Transition between colonial and development period - decolonization, nationalism. Origin of development discourse in the postwar period - basic premises of the development discourse, institutional basis of the development. Development actors (SB, MMF, NNO) - ethnography of institutions. Theory of modernization and its application in the development problematics - economic growth, approaches of classical economy. Dependence theory and development. Development indicators (HDP, HNP, HDI). The concept of basic needs. Neoliberalism and development- neoliberal strategy of main actors in development aid. Concept of human possibilities. The principle of "Good government" as the prerequisity of development. Selected topics on development - agriculture and development; environment and development (sustainable development) Selected topics on development. Gender and development; sport and development; education and development, migration and development, environment and development (presentation of the particular projects). Development project, phases of development project, examples of projects and their critical evaluation. Presentation of an external lecturer with direct experience with realization of the development projects. Movie projection
