Course objectives:

The aim of the course is to present an issue of broad sociocultural change called "postmodernism". This term tries to indicate all the facts that determine thinking, knowing and life goals as a whole. Students get acquainted with particular streams of the postmodern discourse. They get familiar not only with the general characteristics of this theory but also with its manifestations and influences. The works of the main postmodern representants, such as Peter Slodeterdijk, Wolfgang Welsch, Odo Marqurd, Jacques Derrida, Jean-Francois Lyotard or Michel Foucault is, will be discussed. The critics of and reactions to the postmodern thinking will be also included (Habermas, Apel, Küng) as well as Zygmunt Bauman's or Ulrich Beck's attempts to re-read postmodernism.

Requirements on student
|
If the student wants to pass the course successfully, he/she needs to prepare continually by writing the scheduled texts. It serves to acquire analytical and systematical abilities for further work with information. Self-study is a complementary part of the course.
