Course objectives:
|
This course will introduce approaches, possibilities and limitations of social work in situations where individuals encounter processes and mechanisms of justice. It will focus on the following target groups: 1) sex workers; 2) persons abused for financial gain; 3) trafficked persons; 4) victims of domestic violence; 5) victims of crime; 6) violent persons. In the context of each defined situation, terminology and existing classifications will be explained first. In addition, history of social work with individuals in these situations will be introduced. However, emphasis will be put on current approaches and possibilities of social work with individuals in these situations and the impact of the standard of social services. Ethical dilemmas and problems will be part of discussions in the course. Part of this course will also focus on probation and mediation.

Requirements on student
|
Students will complete all assigned readings as well as all written assignments in due time. At the end of the semester, they will pass an written exam.

1.1. Definition of terms, typology of the coditions of sex work, understanding to the social context of sex workers and connection with methods of social work.
1.2. Public policies and legislative frameworks for sex work (regulation, (de) criminalization, legalization, victimization) and influence on social work.
2. Commercial abuse and trafficking in human beings
2.1. Social-economic-political context of commercial abuse and trafficking of human beings
2.2. Mechanisms of trafficking of human beings
2.3. Explaining the concepts and legislative context in the Czech Republic and the EU (Palermo Protocol) and impact on the practice of social workers
3. Victims of crime and victims of domestic violence
3.1. Definition of terms - victim, victimization
3.2. Law in relation to victims of crime
3.3 Types of support and specifics of social work
4. Probation and mediation
4.1. Activities of probation and mediation, history and development
4.2. Types of probation programs
4.3. Legislative and institutional anchoring of the probation mediation service in the Czech Republic
