Course objectives:

The course is dedicated to students enrolled in the Master´s Nursing study programme. Students are brought up to the B2 (grammar)/C1(vocabulary) levels according to the Common European Framework for Languages. Students are able to utilize their knowledge in communication in professional settings. Special attention is paid to the enlargement of vocabulary and language means necessary in all kinds of nursing specializations.

Requirements on student
|
1) regular class attendance (80% minimum);
2) timely completion of all assigned tasks (including the writing assignment discussing a selected topic);
3) completion of a midterm test with at least 70% of correct answers (students can gain a bonus of 5% for the credit test);
4) completion of a final credit test with at least 75% of correct answers. Students have one regular and two additional test attempts in a given academic year;

Knowledge - students are expected to possess the following knowledge before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
Students have B1/B2 language competence according to CEFR. |
Students can use basic vocabulary concerning the content of study and their future profession. |
Students know the principles and can use appropriate means in communication with patients. |
Students can differentiate the functions of grammar tenses when expressing their ideas. |
Students can form questions using all types of verbs. |
Skills - students are expected to possess the following skills before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
Students are able to communicate in common healthcare situations. |
Students are able to work with patients´ medical records and fill in their cards. |
Students can read common texts from their field of study. |
Students can communicate and provide support to patients during admissions. |
Students can provide information about indications and contraindications of drugs, their dosages and side effects. |
Students can communicate with patients suffering from ophthalmological, dermal, oncological, and gastroenterological condition. |
Students can deal with pregnant women and provide them with advice. |
They are able to use the data available from the patient history card in English. |
