Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to teach students to create and present their photographic work through the author's books. Student´s attention will be drawn to the attributes of this form of presentation - i.e. author book is a clearly defined, time-limited project and it is an individual expression of the author. Student's talent and ability to meet a required creative task in time and on a given topic will be checked. The emapasis will be given on the student´s own contribution.

Requirements on student

Requirements for the exam and its passing:
- 75% active participation in consultations and lectures,
- Ongoing consultation and submissions of the assigned tasks in the required quality and by deadlines set by the teacher
- Compliance of all other seminar tasks in time and in accordance with the specifications of the teacher,
- processing, submission, presentation and defence of the semestral project in the required quality and within the specified time,
- to submission 2 DVDs (resp. CD) with a stored complete final work (KP) - in accordance with the Dean´s regulation

Content
|
1. Semestral work assignment + general introduction to the topic + lecture on the development of photography books and the phenomenon of "Zine".
2. Lecture and discussion on current developments and implementation of photographic books (external lecturer, author of photographic publications).
3. Consultation of concept of a photographic book.
4. Implementation of photographs.
5. Implementantion of photographs.
6. Implementation of photographs
7. Implementation of photographs.
8. Concept of graphic design.
9. Final selection of pictures + harmonization of the content.
10. Finalizing graphic layout.
11. Preparation for printing.
12. Project finalization.
13. Final consultation.
Setting the terms for ongoing consultations and class assignments and the final semester project final semestral work.
Setting the deadline for submission of fully completed semester final project - in accordance with the requirements of the teacher.
Setting the deadline for submission of the other required tasks according to the teacher's requirement.
Student during the semester creates a maquette of an author book. Particular attention will be paid to the selection of the topic selection and composition of video material, communication clarity, rhythm and graphic design. Student cooperates with a graphic designer.
The book will contain at least 50% of photos taken for this purpose.

Prerequisites

Knowledge - students are expected to possess the following knowledge before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
Preparation of the concept of the exhibition project incl. promotional material and accompanying texts (invitations, flyers, posters, catalogs, website and Facebook profile), involving communication with the graphic designer. Student already has the skills of adequate assessment of the quality of the scanned material, can consider printing method, material,format and adjustment.
Assessment of interaction with the exhibition space, the role of a viwer etc. Student already has the ability of professional communication with the curator.
The course is designed exclusively for FDA students. |

- creates a model; with special attention paid to the selection of the topic and composition of video material, communication significance, rhythm and graphic design,
