Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to equip students with knowledge and skills in the history, technology and terminology of bookbinding and related field of packaging design with focus on etuije, cases and boxes related to bookbinding. Students are equipped with competencies that allow them to create books ranging from author-made books - objects, to standard book design in a wide range of links. They have the knowledge and skills to create functional models and prototypes of etui and packaging design according to foreign specifications and author's intentions.
The aim of the course is to provide the students with the competence necessary for for designing products, prototypes, small series production and industrial production. It includes knowledge of materials, basic modeling procedures in physical relationships as well as 3D editors, the ability to research the existing results in the given area and the topic, the balance of functionality and aesthetic effect, the ability to communicate in the production team and in relation to the assignor.

Requirements for passing the exam:
- regular class attendance
- continuous fulfilment of all given semestral tasks in required quality and in the term set by the teacher
- active approach to solve problems; necessity of own invention
- continuous production and consultation of a semestral project
- to hand in final version of semestral project to teacher in time and in required quality, including presentation and a written defence
- presentation.

1. Introduction of the topic, introduction to the course of the semester.
2. Entering a topic from the field of book production.
3. Consultation of variants of personal grasp of the given topic and choice of solution for solution.
4. Conception of the course of work - planning of technical and technological procedures.

11. - 12. Continuous corrections, consultations and fulfillment of the semester project.

Knowledge - students are expected to possess the following knowledge before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
to recognize basic material used in bookbinding and cover design and their shaping and characteristics
to recall procedures modeling basic shapes specific forms by several different ways
to compare the results achieved on the given field of creation (both own and foreign)
to bring together basic knowledge of supporting arts disciplines, mostly technologies and industrial design |

to apply knowledge of basic common equipment used for work with paper and other materials suitable for work with books and cover design
to apply most basic methods of working with paper and other basic materials and its shaping
to show own creativity on generally assigned task, to show the will to find different artistic solutions, alter them and constructivelly evaluate
to show ability of basic aesthetic evaluation related with cover design, to compare effect and relation of aesthetic and funciolan qualities and to take into consideration other demands given by the aim and product of creative process |
