Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to equip students with knowledge and skills in the history, technology and terminology of bookbinding and related field of packaging design with focus on etuije, cases and boxes related to bookbinding. Students are equipped with competencies that allow them to create books ranging from author-made books - objects, to standard book design in a wide range of links. They have the knowledge and skills to create functional models and prototypes of etui and packaging design according to foreign specifications and author's intentions.
The aim of the course is to provide the students with the competence necessary for for designing products, prototypes, small series production and industrial production. It includes knowledge of materials, basic modeling procedures in physical relationships as well as 3D editors, the ability to research the existing results in the given area and the topic, the balance of functionality and aesthetic effect, the ability to communicate in the production team and in relation to the assignor.

Requirements for passing the exam:
- regular class attendance
- continuous fulfilment of all given semestral tasks in required quality and in the term set by the teacher
- active approach to solve problems; necessity of own invention
- continuous production and consultation of a semestral project
- to hand in final version of semestral project to teacher in time and in required quality, including presentation and a written defence
- presentation.

3. Consultation of variants of personal grasp of the given topic and choice of solution for solution.
4. Conception of the course of work - planning of technical and technological procedures.

Knowledge - students are expected to possess the following knowledge before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
to recognize basic and advanced material used in bookbinding and cover design and their shaping and characteristics, chosing from variety of known materials based on their specific characteristic
to recall procedures modeling basic shapes specific forms and bookbinding by several different ways with accent on finding the most suitable solution, basic modeling in 3D programs
to compare the results achieved on the given field of creation (both own and foreign), to draw consequences for this comparison on own work, to alter it and be opened for new approaches
to bring together basic knowledge of supporting arts disciplines, mostly illustration and digital technologies |
Skills - students are expected to possess the following skills before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
to apply knowledge of basic common current and basic historical equipment of bookbinding wirkshop used for work with paper and other materials suitable for work with books and cover design, to apply the knowledge of basic 3D editors and programs
to apply variety of methods of working with paper and other common materials and its shaping, possibilities and ways of using those materials
to show own creativity on generally assigned task, to show the will to find different artistic solutions, alter them and constructivelly evaluate
to show ability of basic aesthetic evaluation related with cover design, bookbinding and basic elements of interior and spacial crations, to compare effect and relation of aesthetic and funciolan qualities and to take into consideration other demands given by the aim and product of creative process
about project planning (technologic methods, conceptual analysis of given theme, sketching of final product,) individually and in a team using related disciplins
to reproduce the method of common book binding and spacial creativity |

Knowledge - knowledge resulting from the course: |
of basic history of bookbinding and cover design, then graphic and graphic design on basic level, and social-cultural contexts and their current modern form
of technical terminology of advanced bookbinding and working with paper and other packaging materials, interior designing, of production of hand-made paper and visualizing own products in 3D, their options for art expressioning
of conventional and less conventional methods and workflows of work with paper and other materials and of their advantages and specifics, their options for art expressioning and experiment
of advanced aesthetic and functional criteria for different products, choosing of their effective proportions during keeping the originality and the concept
of common use of various products of bookbinding and cover design, several unconventional usages of those products and their suitable form based on art expressioning and functionality
of color and structural schemes and their effects usable in interior and other design disciplines |

to use common and specialized machines, tools and other equipment of bookbindig and designer workshop and 3D editors for visualizing own work
to apply advanced technologies of work with paper (and its production, manual and machined) and other commonly used materials (refining, cutting, conecting, shaping, etc.) in traditional and untraditional ways using their specific character
to reflect his work in historical and contemporary contexts, is aware of posibilities of this contexts for art expressioning and semantics and knowingly use them
to reflect its work in the context of professional, technical and technological processes, chooses the most suitable methods in variety of alterations using other related disciplines such as graphic or interior design
with erudition, presents his work to the professional community and general public, explain the problematics of the topic and show possible alterations of his work
to individually and in a team develop an advanced project based on given assignement from design and technical measurement, model in scale to realization in material, cooperates on his work with other disciplines and his thoughts vizualizes in 3D
he is able to accept and assert in a way the evaluation and critical response, is able to do own critical reflection of own work based on integrated criteria, is able to evaluate and further use results of those reflections |
