Course objectives:
The course is aimed to provide students with an understanding of the fundamentals of surface engineering. It describes the characteristic properties of surfaces, their interactions and deterioration caused by their environment and presents protection methods using organic and inorganic coatings. The processes of chemical and galvanic plating, enamelling, phosphating, chrome plating, PVD, CVD, etc. will be described. Attention is also paid to the measurement and evaluation of the surface coatings properties. Evaluation methods of optical, chemical and mechanical properties will be described. Practical measurements of thickness, hardness and other properties of surface treatments will be carried out.
Requirements on student
