Course objectives:
|
This course is intended only for lifelong learning participants. The aim is to provide listeners with an insight into the development of sacral architecture, wall, panel and book painting and sculpture, combined with analyzes of selected representative works in Europe and the Czech lands. To present the issue of the development of Christian art from its first manifestations to high Gothic.

Active participation in lectures (min. 75%), credit test, oral exam.

Content
|
The issue of the development of Christian art from its first manifestations to the High Gothic. The form of teaching in the subject is hybrid. Face-to-face teaching will be combined with online lectures (maximum 5 online sessions). A course in LMS Moodle containing study supports will also be open to students. Once a semester, an excursion will be organized (commented tour of the exhibition of the National Gallery in Prague, Medieval Art in Bohemia and Central Europe 1200-1550, etc.)
1. Introduction to the subject. The origins of Christianity. Saints and saintesses.
2. Art of the catacombs: foreshadowing and symbols.
3. A place for liturgy: the creation of the Christian temple and its changes.
4. In the melting pot: pre-Romanesque art in Europe.
5. From Ancient Scrolls to Illuminated Codexes.
6. Monasteries, religious and pilgrims.
7. Gothic cathedral: a world within a world.
8. From Romanesque symbolism to a realistic image - an optical slice of reality.
9. Bohemia and Moravia for sacred monuments of the Middle Ages.
10. Master of Vyšebrod, Master Teodorik, Master of Třeboň and changes in style.
11. Conceptual concept of the decoration of the Cathedral of St. Víta and Karlštejna.
12. The theme of Christmas in visual arts.
13. Excursion.
