Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to familiarize the students with the historical periods of jewellery art and art handicraft of precious metals, from the prehistory to the 20th century, with the trends in this field and with the wider scope of the style development of it, relative to the other fields such as design and sculpture.

Requirements on student
|
Credit requirements:
- Regular, at least 75% attendance at lectures, - Active participation in discussions based on homework on individual topics, - Developing written credit seminar work according to the specified topics, - Possibly, a special oral presentation of the work continuously during the semester, - Compliance with the final date for submission of seminar work or presenting a paper, - Participation in the field trip.
Requirements for passing the exam:
- Obtaining prior credit, - Oral exam in the range of topics discussed and the basic study literature.

1. Introduction to the study - jewelry and objects made of precious metals in the context of development of arts & crafts, chronology and styles, centers and personalities and their contributions. 2. Metals and techniques of creating jewelry, nomenclature and characteristics of secular and ecclesiastical small items of clothing and accessories, hallmarking, glyptics and gemology, restoration and conservation of metals and jewels. 3. Jewelry and goldsmith in Antiquity - Egypt, Mesopotamia, Ancient culture and its heritage - Greece, Rome and Byzantine origins. 4. Jewelry and metal in the early Middle Ages - the period of migrations, Germans and Slavs. 5. Jewelry and goldsmithery in Romanesque and Gothic Europe: monastic and courtly workshops; Knight Culture and Early Gothic, High Gothic, Burgundy and Flemish jewelry and late Gothic. 6. Jewelry during the Renaissance and Mannerism. 7. Jewelry and goldsmithery in Baroque and Rococo. 8. Jewelry and goldsmithery from the Classical period to Biedermeier, historical styles of the 19th century. 9. Jewelry in Art Nouveau in Europe and Bohemia. 10. Jewelry in the times of decorativism and functionalism. 11. Current jewelry on the international scene, jewelry symposiums in Turnov 1984 - 2008. 12. Jewelry in Bohemia - Jablonec industry and professional schools. The craft of design. 13. Field trip.

to list important personalities and producers in the various phases of the development of arts and crafts processing of precious metals and jewelery,

to include events, artistic trends and personalities in the timeline of historical development,
