To provide students with knowledge into the selected legal topics in Jewish and Islamic Law, such as historical evaluation of the system of law and its relationship to state law, sources of law, law of personal status and dietary law.

Course is divided into two parts: Jewish Law and Islamic Law.
PART ONE - Jewish Law 1. Introduction - general characteristic of Jewish Law, its origins and evaluation and medieval schools 2. Sources of Jewish Law, relationship to state law of other countries, application of Jewish Law in Diaspora 3. Law of personal status 4. Law of personal status 5. Dietary law (kashrut) 6. Beit Din as an arbitration institution
PART TWO - Islamic Law 1. Introduction - general characteristic of Islamic Law, its origin and evaluation and schools of law 2. Sources of Islamic Law and relationship to state law 3.
