Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to teach a student the field between polygraphy and free graphic expression - lithography (i.e. study of relation between expression and content of visual message, of technical and social conditions of changes in culture, determined by a print phenomenon). Further, to explain the relation among cognate techniques including the possibilities of combination of contemporary and traditional procedures.

Individual term project: outside the Institute and in a machine-free conditions, students will carry out a preparation of matrix, drawing, print in a number of versions, using various materials according to the teacher?s instructions. The aim of this task is to equip the student with a self-confident experience, transferable technical knowledge, and to verify that the acquired knowledge has become entrenched.

Examples of historical print, watching a document about limestone.
Basic procedures of making the matrix and preparation for print.
Excursion to a stone print workshop in Prague.
Large size print from stone and metal sheet.
Variety of printing materials.
Relation of digital image, photography and stone print.
Reviving and conservation of old drawings on stone.
Individual work on stone without machine equipment.
Combination of intaglio, relief printing and chemical print.
Watching two documents about workshops in France and the U.S.A.
Preparation and realisation of semester task.

to work independently and activelly and flexibly react to evaluating commentary of the teacher,
