Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to teach the students the principles of drawing and to provide them with knowledge enabling the personal interpretation of the content knowledge in individual drawing expression. Further, to provide the availability of skill to the approach and variation also in other graphic fields where the basic artistic literacy is necessary.

Requirements on student
|
Credit requirements: - Participation in seminars, - Completion and submission of all assigned studio sub-tasks (seminar works) in the extent and deadlines set by the teacher.
Requirements for passing the exam:
- Previously obtained credit, - Submission and defense of assignments (individual project on a free theme as agreed with the teacher) - Presentation - Successful development of drawings (in the last two lessons), on a specially assigned topic (the topic will contain most of the principles of drawing in its formal and expressive forms) - Self-reflections.

Content
|
Students of master's program can enroll in this course as in so-called second studio. Weeks 1 - 13 1. Introduction to basic concepts and principles of engineering drawings and the emergence of an authentic work of art. Drawing and its possibilities in the context of all artistic disciplines. 2. Technological fundamentals. What I draw on, what I draw with. Charcoal drawing exercises. 3. Distinction between dry and wet materials for drawing. Fixation and treatment of drawings. Exercises in shape and light contrasts. 4. Basics of drawing images. Rule of balance. Grouping into format. Observing the whole. Exercises on spatial and compositional variations of studio still lifes. 5. Point and line. Abstract studio exercises on the theme of still life or part of landscape. 6. Figurative and non-figurative. Pencilwork. 7. Surface, shape and space in figurative and non-figurative pictures. 8. Light and color in figurative and non-figurative pictures. 9. Harmony, order and compositional variation towards originality of expression. 10. Authenticity of drawings and the ability of visual expressive gesture or impressive variations. Color extreme. Destruction of form and entropy component in drawing and art. 11. Principle of figuration. Magnification, exaggeration and stylization. 12. Thematic drawing composition as a manifestation of a structured creative thinking. 13. Inspiration. Free work or cycle. Imagination. Free cycle. Extensions and variations. Importance of artist's attitudes and responses to authority.

Knowledge - students are expected to possess the following knowledge before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
to equip basic drawing procedures and their options for own expression and further uses
reproduce the names and definitions of the common building elements of the art language in drawing and its used forms and their combinations
to bring together basic knowledge of supporting arts disciplines and their relation to drawing and its techniques and options for use of a drawing
compare the results achieved on the given field of creation (both own and foreign), to describe own comparison and draw consequences from it
to apply knowledge about basic illustratorial and semantic morphology when designing the assigned task |
Skills - students are expected to possess the following skills before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
to make drawing sketch of different scales of own compositional proposals on a given topic, to work with several possible alternations
to make a research for a given topic, to explain basic problematics of given topic and present it to the professional and general society
on the basis of criteria, select appropriate proposals and work with their alterations,
to realize the final picture (series of images) with effort to create own personal style
install your work into a simple exposure based on character of expositure space and purpose of the work |

about project planning individually, the project is divided into several successive steps and suggests their alteration, individual steps needed for realization of large-format and specific genres of drawing

about historical and contemporary style canons of drawing and its transitions into other media, the position of drawing in the context of art in history and today focusing on specific forms of drawing

Skills - skills resulting from the course: |
plans and realizes a project of simple artwork with drawing expressive means, own work divides into several steps and designs their alterations based on a character of used materials
take account of the techniques and technology used based on their possibilities and own imagination, expands his vocabulary of learned techniques
emphasize the principles of pictorial expression in terms of illustrating and symbolizing imagery, work with space and the use of basic compositional principles mostly on large formats and its effects,
verify the possibilities of expressing the artwork by color and inter-colored relationships,
they use basic drawing techniques on different materials (canvas, paper, diferent types of a wall)
reflects his work in historical and contemporary contexts, is aware of options of those contexts for own creative work and is able of using them
